The new paradigm of catechesis for the formation of a synodal mentality.

Abstract

Since the Second Vatican Council, from Paul VI to Francis, the Church's primary concern has been evangelization. The Magisterium of Francis, in the context of the New Evangelization, seeks to revitalize the Church in the face of the challenges of contemporary reality, which in many ways can be considered self-referential and fragmented. Synodality is presented as the salvation of the dynamism, communion and mission that are most characteristic of the Church, and catechesis, an educational action of faith, must be in harmony with the ecclesial journey, since it is a service that directly collaborates in the processes that the Church needs to develop. How can catechesis, starting from a new paradigm, contribute to the formation of a synodal mentality? The Magisterium of Francis calls catechesis to a more kerygmatic-mystagogical dimension, which expands its activity by focusing on the power of the proclamation of the Word that leads to the mystery, thus entering into a new paradigm to form missionary disciples and contribute to the task of forming a synodal mentality. It uses bibliographical research with deductive methodology, based on the analysis of documents from the Magisterium of Francis, the Latin American Church, the Church of Brazil, as well as books and articles in the field of systematic-pastoral theology.
